Lee Kum Kee celebrated the official commencement of solar photovoltaic power generation project at its Xinhui Production Base today, after six months of construction and installation. The installation marked Lee Kum Kee as leader to embrace the green production trend in the industry by becoming a forerunner in adopting solar photovoltaic power. Officials of District Committee and District Government of Xinhui, leaders of China Southern Power Grid’s Xinhui branch, media representatives and others joined senior management of Lee Kum Kee to witness the significant occasion.

The photovoltaic power generation station is installed on the rooftops of warehouses totalling approximately 47,000 square metres in the Xinhui Production Base of Lee Kum Kee. The semi-conductor boards convert solar energy directly into electricity. The designed capacity of the station is 4.3 Megawatt Peak (MWp) with a generation capacity of 3.98 million kWh per year, equivalent to a saving of 1,312 tonnes of standard coal and a reduction of 3,448 tonnes of carbon emission every year.

Lee Kum Kee is the first major business in Xinhui, Guangdong to adopt photovoltaic power and the first condiment enterprise in China to invest in photovoltaic project. Through the utilisation of renewable energy, Lee Kum Kee hopes to advocate energy conservation and emission reduction in Xinhui. Whenever the electric power consumption is low at Xinhui Production Base, the surplus power from photovoltaic power generation will be transmitted to the public power grid in Qibao, Xinhui, in relief of public power supply shortage. The photovoltaic power station of Lee Kum Kee is also the first to join the Jiangmen power grid. The data collected and system-wide key indicator comparisons after the station is put into operation will generate basic information for subsequent projects and selection of best design for photovoltaic projects. This station will become a demonstration model of photovoltaic power station for the Jiangmen region.
