The Opening Ceremony of Lee Kum Kee Building in Shanghai took place on 17 December 2016. Lee Kum Kee Group Chairman Mr. Lee Man Tat and his wife, Lee Kum Kee Sauce Group Chairman Mr. Charlie Lee, Lee Kum Kee family members, representatives of the Shanghai Xuhui District government, joined the occasion along with some 300 representatives from media outlets and Lee Kum Kee.

In his speech at the ceremony, Mr. Lee Man Tat recalled the development of Lee Kum Kee over the past 128 years and expressed his hope and optimism on its future prospects. Mr. Charlie Lee highlighted that the new premises embraced the combination of environmental, location and human resource advantages to enable colleagues to vigorously exploit the market and pursue the mission of "promoting Chinese cuisines worldwide". Xuhui District Commercial Committee Director Mr. Hua Xin conveyed the congratulatory message from the Xinhui District Committee Secretary, recognising Lee Kum Kee’s contributions in promoting economic development in Xuhui as well as in Shanghai. He acclaimed Lee Kum Kee as a role model for ethnic Chinese enterprises.

Lee Kum Kee Building is a 21-storey office tower with two floors used as offices for Lee Kum Kee China headquarters, and the top floor housing Lee Kum Kee’s Brand Experience Centre. The latter comprises Brand Display Corridor, R&D Centre, Culinary Workshop and a multi-function room. The Centre enables visitors to experience Lee Kum Kee’s journey to success and sustained efforts in promoting Chinese cuisines worldwide with vivid images, audio and video clips as well as an abundant array of Lee Kum Kee sauces.

Since the reform and opening up of China, Lee Kum Kee has viewed the country as a major emerging market to be explored. In the 1980s, Lee Kum Kee seized the opportunity to venture into the Chinese market, and its early success led to the decision in the 1990s to set up production bases in Xinhui and Huangpu of Guangdong to facilitate long-term business development. As China’s economy since boomed, Lee Kum Kee’s business in China has also grown by leaps and bounds. In 2007, the Company moved its China headquarters to Shanghai, the economic and financial centre of China, to leverage on its geographical position to expand the business across China for Lee Kum Kee sauces to find their way into millions of households. The opening of Lee Kum Kee Building demonstrates the Group's determination in riding on the development of the Chinese economy to further expand its business in China. Using Shanghai as the focal point and command headquarters, Lee Kum Kee will spearhead the marketing of its high-quality sauce products to consumers in every corner across the country.
